So You Believe in God?

For everyone who calls yourself a Christian; The word Christian is only in the bible (3) three times, Acts 11:26, Acts 26:28, and 1 Peter 4:16. Our call is to be disciples of Christ. In fact, when the word Christian is first used, it’s used to refer to disciples. In being disciples we are called to make disciples. How can we make disciples if we’re not being one our self. Christianity is too easy here, it’s no wonder we’re not being or making disciples.

We’re told from jump that all we have to do believe a set of facts about Jesus in order to be a “Christian”, in other words, to be saved. Well by that definition, even Satan himself could be saved, because he knows beyond the shadow of a doubt that Jesus is God’s son. So there you go, even the devil believes in God, and shudders. But the bible calls for so much more than this. So much more.

We are so easily satisfied, yet so discontent. Our money, our cars, our houses; all vanity. We hustle and work and strive for what? Dirt… A pile of dirt. When all we have to do is ask, and full joy would be ours for the taking. The bible says, “Delight yourselves in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4) Yet, we continue on in misery, content with bumper-sticker christianity. What a shame it is!

  1. Take it or leave it, being and making disciples (Matt. 28: 18-20) is a function of firsthand knowledge or experience of Jesus Christ in his perfect, powerful, and transfigurative death on the cross (Matt. 16: 13-28; 17: 1-13; 26: 26-29, 63-64; 27: 50-56). There is no other way!

  2. You are absolutely right! Only after meeting the Great Teacher at the cross, and experiencing His love firsthand, can you then go out and “make disciples of all the nations” (or even of your own neighborhood)!! Excellent point.
